Google has just confirmed that it is working with Samsung to completely revamp Wear OS and bring crucial updates to the platform. The company also revealed that it is working with Samsung and Fitbit to bring a new generation of Wear OS-powered watches to market, which are expected to be available later this year. In a blog post on the subject, the company further highlighted some of the new features it will add to the platform, such as new browsing capabilities, new thumbnails, and a much-anticipated YouTube Music app.
Google switched from Google Play Music to YouTube Music last year, and one of the many issues users faced as a result of this transition was the lack of a Wear OS app for Google’s new music streaming service. . Google has now confirmed that it will release a YouTube Music app for Wear OS later this year. The app will include features like smart downloads that will allow users to download music to their watches for offline listening while on the go.
Additionally, Google announced that it makes it easier for developers to build new Wear OS and Tiles apps with a few new tools. These include a new API Tiles and a watch face design editor made by Samsung. Apps from developers like Strava, Adidas Running, Bitmoji and many more will also be integrated into the platform later this year.
