Concert Seen: Sugar Ray/Goo Goo Dolls Location: Polaris Ampitheater in Columbus Ohio on August 17, 1999. Rate?: Excellent About The Concert: "That was my first real concert that I went to and it was worth going to. I bought 2 tickets and my ma wanted to go because she liked Goo Goo Dolls and I was the Sugar Ray fan. But then I won 2 front row tickets off the radio and I remember screaming so loud on the phone that they didn't even bother putting me on air!! So we left sort of early to get to Columbus in time for the concert at 7:30pm. We got there and waited and they was playing Len "Steal My Sunshine" over and over and over and over during the wait. So then the first band came on and I don't really know who they were but they were good (It was supposed to be Fastball but they cancelled). And then Sugar Ray came out and sang songs off of Floored and their current album at the time, 14:59. Mark was running around and jumping onstage and drinking drinks from a lil tiki type bar and DJ homicide was out dancing around and they was all having a good time. I remember the first song they sang was "Mean Machine". Stan was throwing drum sticks out into the crowd and Murphy (might have been Rodney, I don't remember) was throwing guitar picks and I caught one! Then Goo Goo Dolls came out and rocked the place HARD. They were smashing guitars through the screens and going crazy. Johnny sang the ballads alone and with lights on him and was going crazy during the fast songs. I remember them singing a song that started out as a complete ballad but then halfway during the song.he busted out screaming and was singing SUPER fast and everything. He was right when he said he was going to sing a song with a twist! Overall, I went there as a REALLY big Sugar Ray fan but I actually came out as a bigger Goo Goo Dolls fan. They both rocked though! I recommened both bands!!! Especially the Goo Goo Dolls." |
