Concert Seen: Fiona Apple Location: Boston Rate?: Excellent Comment: Wednesday December 7th 2005 Boston, MA Orpheum Theater A very cold night in Boston didn't seem to keep people away for what looked to be a sold-out show(capacity a little under 3000) Opener David Garza started promptly at 7:30 and played a tidy set of solo-acoustic pop rock songs very muck in the vein of Jason Mraz or Jack Johnson. Likeable, but not much really stood out. After a short break Fiona Apple hit the stage with a shy wave to the crowd and sat at her piano(where she spent a good portion of the night), starting with a song of the new album Get Him Back. Early on the backing 4 piece band seemed to drown her out a bit but after a couple songs, the sound cleared up alot and was solid throughout the rest of the show. The backing band was solid and included producer (who's worked with the likes of Dr. Dre) Mike Elizondo on upright bass. Fiona went through 19 songs in all covering all 3 albums dividing time at the piano and at center stage. She only addressed the crowd a couple times, once stateing that even though she was born in NY, she was conceived in Boston. Otherwise the focus was squarely on the music. Very solid show and a great night. Hopefully she won't be gone so long next time. Here is Fiona Apple's set list:
